How does a student regain UIL eligibility after failing a class?

Updated July 1, 2026Coach Navigator

Short answer

A student who lost eligibility under No Pass, No Play can regain it at the end of a three-week evaluation period if they are passing all classes at that check. Eligibility is reinstated seven calendar days after the passing three-week period ends.

Losing eligibility is not permanent. Under No Pass, No Play, a student regains eligibility by passing all classes at a three-week checkpoint after the initial suspension.

The reinstatement timeline

  • The suspension lasts at least three school weeks.
  • At the end of each three-week period, the school checks grades in every class.
  • If the student is passing all classes, eligibility is reinstated seven calendar days later.
  • If still failing any class, the suspension continues to the next three-week check.

Students may practice during the suspension, so an athlete who gets their grades up stays ready to compete the moment eligibility returns. Track the three-week checkpoints on your calendar so no one misses a reinstatement date.
